(POST-)INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

The transformation of industrial and post-industrial sites into vibrant places that respond to contemporary needs is a major spatial challenge across Europe. Through several projects, VELD has developed an approach that addresses the specific complexities of these sites while identifying the opportunities embedded in their existing structures, landscapes and strategic locations.

For Revive, VELD is working on the redevelopment of the ACV site in Ruisbroek, transforming a post-industrial site in a strategic location at the heart of the town and next to the railway station into a new residential development. In Rixensart, we are working on the transformation of the GlaxoSmithKline campus into a Research & Development site. Strategic demolitions fundamentally restructure the campus, creating new open spaces that improve the working environment and provide an inspiring setting for pharmaceutical innovation.

Other projects include the competition for the redevelopment of the Florival site, the transformation of the Lange Akker site in Zele, the Hexagon redevelopment masterplan and the proposal for the transformation of the Icadi site in Liège.
